Nicolo Barella has chosen to join Inter over Roma because he wants to play Champions League football and have Antonio Conte as head coach, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Inter have offered Cagliari €36 million plus €4 million in add-ons and are only willing to add a couple of loan deals for academy players by way of a raise.

Roma have responded with a proposal of €35 million plus Gregoire Defrel and hoped to finalise a deal with Tommaso Giulini yesterday, who prefers the Giallorossi’s offer.

Giulini told reporters Barella had two days to decide his future but the paper made it clear he had already made his decision a long time ago.

If Inter sign Barella they could review their rigid position regarding Radja Nainggolan, who has the same agent as the 22-year-old.

Nainggolan has been told he is up for sale but no offers above €30 million have arrived and he remains likely to stay put.

Alessandro Beltrami will play a key role in Barella’s future and helping Inter get their man could convince the Nerazzurri to rethink their hard-line stance on the Ninja.

Gazzetta said Roma’s offer would stay on the table ‘until the end’, adding that Inter could be forced to match it in order to sign the midfielder in the worst case scenario.
