Napoli have officially joined the race to sign Mauro Icardi after offering the player a lucrative five-year deal, according to FcInterNews.it.

Icardi would earn €7.5 million per season with the Partenopei, marginally short of the €8 million annual salary Juventus have offered.

The striker and his wife and agent prefer a move to Turin than Naples but Aurelio De Laurentiis will leave no stone unturned in his pursuit of Inter’s former captain.

There is no chance Icardi will move to La Liga, meanwhile, despite persistent links from Spain with a move to Atletico Madrid.

Napoli are not in a hurry to complete a deal for Icardi, whereas Inter are keen to recoup €50-60 million as quickly as possible.

Juventus are also happy to wait, though, safe in the knowledge they can secure a more favourable deal if they let negotiations drag out until the end of August.

Inter would prefer to sell Icardi to Napoli than Juve, but the Nerazzurri only have so much power in these negotiations.
