Arrigo Sacchi lauded Inter for appointing Antonio Conte as their head coach this morning while describing the former Juventus boss as ‘a perfectionist’.
Conte played for Sacchi while the latter was coaching the Italian national team in the mid-1990s and the pair still talk to each other regularly.
The former Milan coach claimed Conte only ever wants to talk about football, assuring supporters Inter had made ‘a great signing’.
“Conte has extraordinary qualities as a coach and gives his life to football,” Sacchi wrote in his column.
“The only way things could go wrong for him is if Inter don’t back him fully in getting rid of those players he doesn’t trust.
“Antonio isn’t a presumptuous man but he has extreme conviction in his own ideas, albeit he is always looking to evolve. His international experience has helped him become more courageous as a coach, ensuring his style of play is more attacking than it was in the past.”
Sacchi also praised Conte’s ability to transfer his ideas to his players, before urging him not to defend with ‘one or two players too many’ this season.
“Conte knows you can never achieve perfection because he is sensible and intelligent,” Sacchi added.
“He will always do everything in his power to seek improvement, though, because he has always done that throughout his career.
“That’s what he will ask of his players and whoever shows a determination to honour their profession will be rewarded under him.”
