Inter remain a long way from agreeing a deal to sign Edin Dzeko from Roma, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Beppe Marotta and the Giallorossi’s chief executive Guido Fienga were both at the Lega Serie A’s headquarters in Milan yesterday, creating rumours they could meet for fresh talks.

However, the pair ignored each other and did not seem to have any intention of making progress in negotiations.

“It’s like a game of chess at the moment,” Gazzetta reported this morning.

“On the one hand Roma want €20 million and, like sporting director Gianluca Petrachi said last week, they are not willing to tolerate any attempts at ‘blackmail’.

“On the other, Inter think Dzeko is worth €10 million because he only has a year left on his contract, and they have already agreed a three-year deal worth €4.5 million per season.”

Dzeko began preseason training with Roma on Monday but cut a lonely and frustrated figure, ignoring calls from supporters to pose for photographs.
