Inter and Milan’s management today reassured city residents they would not ‘impose’ anything on them after announcing their intention to rebuild San Siro.

The clubs released a lengthy joint statement on Wednesday, confirming they had handed over a ‘Technical and Economic Feasibility Study’ to the council after months of planning.

They also outlined plans to build a new multifunctional district in the area next to San Siro, which will be dedicated to ‘sports, entertainment and shopping’.

Alessandro Antonello, Paolo Scaroni and Ivan Gazidis were quoted by Ansa as saying: “We want a project residents will be on board with. Neither club wants to impose anything and we want an open discussion with local institutions.”

Inter and Milan confirmed the Study they submitted today was an attempt to ‘obtain the declaration of public interest from the Municipality of Milan’, after which they would proceed to file a definitive plan.

The new San Siro would be a 60,000-seater stadium while the overall project, including the adjacent district, is expected to cost €1.2 billion.
