Inter’s only hope of signing Edin Dzeko quickly is if they can persuade Mauro Icardi to join Roma in a swap deal, according to Sky Sport last night.

There is little doubt Dzeko will complete his move to the Nerazzurri before the transfer window shuts, but it remains unclear when exactly that will happen.

Roma are in huge trouble as they search for a replacement because Gonzalo Higuain, their preferred target, is not interested in moving to the capital.

Icardi would solve the Giallorossi’s problems by moving in the opposite direction to Dzeko, but for the moment he still only has eyes for Juventus.

Antonio Conte wants to sign Dzeko immediately so he can begin work on his new strike partnership, following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United.

Roma’s inability to prepare for the Bosnian’s likely departure is blocking any move for the moment, though, with neither Higuain nor Icardi listening to their offers.

Dzeko scored 14 goals in all competitions last season as Claudio Ranieri guided them to a sixth-place finish in Serie A.
