Federico Chiesa is open to joining Inter in 2020 despite nearly signing for Juventus this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The forward gave preference to the Bianconeri in the current transfer window but Fiorentina’s new owner Rocco Commisso denied him the chance to leave.
Everything will reset once the market shuts on 3 September and Chiesa’s entourage are hinting they are interested in Inter’s offer.
Juventus have a closer relationship with those who manage the 21-year-old’s interests, but Inter are confident of receiving preferential treatment from Fiorentina themselves.
Commisso is aware his new supporters would rather see Chiesa anywhere other than at Juventus, if and when he did eventually decide to sell.
Chiesa’s price tag, thought to be in the region of €70 million for now, will play a similarly pivotal role in deciding who signs the Italy international, although this will depend on how he fares in Florence this season.
Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio will have plenty of time before next summer to re-establish contact with Chiesa’s father Enrico, having held exploratory talks more than a year ago.
Inter are prepared to make Chiesa their third-highest paid player behind Romelu Lukaku and Diego Godin, offering a salary which is in line with what he should earn at a top club.
Chiesa would be a more important figure for the Nerazzurri than he would be in Turin, something Inter hope will be enough to win him over.
