Radja Nainggolan has hit out at Inter for the way in which he was made to leave the club over the Summer transfer window, just a year on from joining from Roma.

“It is crazy forcing players out. A club will never win things that way when players are simply transformed into numbers,” he explained in an interview with La Repubblica.

“I took Inter into the Champions League with a decisive goal, but the credit belongs to everyone. I am glad they are really strong this year, I wish them all the best. I would not mind if they won the Scudetto this season, but there is some sour grapes on my part.

“I think I could have stayed in that team. The club had made a decision about me. Conte asked the club for new players. If you want to get something, you also have to give.

“It is strange to say two years ago that you cannot do without this player and then, two years later, you do not consider them anymore: it does not seem logical.”

He then revealed that Romelu Lukaku was hopeful of linking up with him.

“I heard from Lukaku over the summer. He told me he was going to Inter, he asked me to wait for him: ‘Come on, we will be together this season.’ Then the opposite happened.”

He also shared his regret about leaving Roma.

“If you ask me if I thought about ending my career in Rome I will quietly say yes. There I was happy, I gave my soul, I had everything I wanted. It was greatly disappointment to leave.”
