Inter’s possible move for Matteo Darmian in the upcoming January transfer window is entirely down to Valentino Lazaro, according to a report from Milan based news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.

€22 million man Lazaro has significantly struggled since swapping Hertha Berlin for Inter this past Summer with him having been limited to just two substitute appearances to date.

The Austrian international was brought in to play at right wing back but due to his struggles and Danilo D’Ambrosio’s injury, Antonio Candreva has been forced into working overtime and has had very little in the way of rest.

Lazaro has between now and January to impress or risks being loaned out. Inter only wish to loan him out as they do not wish to make a loss on him through a permanent transfer so soon after buying him.

If Lazaro is to depart, Inter will pull the trigger on Parma player Darmian, who, alongside being able to play at either wing back position, could provide cover at centre back.
