Inter defender Milan Skriniar was disappointed at Slovakia’s failure to qualify for next summer’s European Championships despite their 2-0 win over Azerbaijan last night.
The squad will now have to hope to gain a place through next year’s Nations League playoffs. The defender spoke to gathered reporters after yesterday’s win, with Italian media outlet FcInterNews gathering his words.
“We are not happy with the result, despite the victory. We won the match, but the result of the other match did not help us. The qualification results could have been slightly better. I’m particularly upset about the home game against Wales that we should have managed better, but it didn’t happen. Had we done that we would have been at the European Championships.”
The 24-year-old Nerazzurri defender then looked ahead to what the squad will have to do to still qualify for Euro 2020.
“I don’t think we’re a bad team. We’ve played good games. Now I’m thinking about Inter, but in March we’ll have the Nations League playoffs to give the last four places for Euro 2020.”
