Napoli will need to make an offer a salary of at least €6 million per season to Inter target Dries Mertens, if they want to retain his services beyond his current contract’s expiry date of next June, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
The report details how currently the negotiations between the 32-year-old Belgian forward and the Partenopei are moving slowly, as Mertens wants at least €6 million per season, a figure that Napoli haven’t offered him just yet.
However, the club’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis is likely to offer the figure, as it would be a surprise if the Naples based club let the player leave for free next summer.
Mertens is wanted by both Inter and clubs in China, the report continues. The Nerazzurri would be willing to sign him as a free agent next summer, in order to continue their strengthening of the squad.
