Inter and their coach Antonio Conte predicted that a strong partnership would form between Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku before they purchased the 26-year-old Belgian striker in the summer, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio on the Sky Calcio Show, hosted by Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia.

Di Marzio detailed how the Nerazzurri studied the potential partnership in detail before purchasing Lukaku from Manchester United, with Antonio Conte suggesting that the duo would be perfect for his tactical setup and game plan.

Furthermore, Roma striker Edin Dzeko was linked with a move to Inter in the summer before the purchase of the 26-year-old Belgian, a move that would have been a mistake, Di Marzio continues. With Dzeko, a partnership between himself and Lautaro wouldn’t have been as smooth and both players would have struggled more. Instead, alongside Lukaku, the 22-year-old Argentine forward can shine more and lead the squad forwards.
