Former Italian coach Fabio Capello discussed Inter’s top January transfer, Christian Eriksen, and what he can bring to the team in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Inter is the top team that had the biggest window and Eriksen can make a difference.”
Capello then spoke further about the Danish midfielder.
“I remember when he was still in Holland, I reported him to Franco Baldini, who was Roma’s manager at the time. He is a great player, even if Sensi didn’t disappointment next to him.”
The 73-year-old Italian touched on Inter’s other two main January transfers, Ashley Young and Victor Moses.
“Young is a wing back who is also capable of defending, but he brought his winger experience with him and can cross very well, an extra provider for Lukaku and Lautaro. Moses is a footballer who can run, on a dynamic level, he’s a great backup.”
Finally, Capello spoke about Inter’s two opponents in the title race, first place Juventus and third place Lazio.
“Inter are closer to Juve today, even though Juve are still the favourites. I think everything will depend on Sarri’s squad in the end. Lazio suffered in the derby, confirming the doubt that emerged in previous games, but somehow overshadowed by the successes. Lazio need the brilliance to fight for the Scudetto, otherwise they will surely lose it.”
Inter are currently second in the league table after 21 games, three points behind Juventus at the start of the weekend. The Nerazzurri have drawn their last three league games in a row, dropping a little in form. This has allowed Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio to enter into the title race, as now the Biancocelesti are only two points behind the Milanese side and have a game in hand. A win against Udinese tonight will be crucial for Inter.
