Former Juventus and Italian national team winger Simone Pepe has sang the praises of Inter’s in form striker Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku has been in red hot form this season scoring 21 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions to date in his first season in a Nerazzurri shirt.
The 26-year-old Belgian international grabbed his second goal in as many Milan derbies on Sunday night at San Siro and Pepe has shared his belief that not even some of Italy’s greatest ever defenders could stop the former Manchester United man.
“He is doing well and all is positive. He was wanted by Antonio Conte and is at the centre of Inter’s project. Not even Nesta, Maldini or Cannavaro could mark him,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset show Tiki Taka last night.
Pepe also commented on Inter new boy Christian Eriksen, who joined the club in a circa €20 million deal from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur during the recent January transfer window.
Eriksen made his third appearance across all competitions in Sunday’s Milan derby and very nearly had his first Inter goal as he crashed a long range free kick off the underside of the bar.
“Eriksen came on and played in the second striker role, he is not a mezzala. He has to pretend to be a mezzala who does not return to the mezzala role when he is in possession of the ball.”
