Umberto Marino, general manager of Atalanta, commented on the decision to postpone the four Serie A games today in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
“We were waiting for the communication, but we had had signals that football had to adapt unfortunately to the emergency situation that is coming. These are the cases in which sport rightly needs to take a step back.”
The sporting director of Hellas Verona, Tony D’Amico, agreed with his colleague.
“All we can do is adapt.”
Atalanta are currently 4th in the league after 24 games, sitting nine points behind 3rd place Inter and six points ahead of 5th place Roma. The club are working hard to secure the 4th spot in the league table this season in order to qualify for next season’s Champions League. In their debut season in the competition, the Bergamo based club have reached the knockout stages of the competition and even beat Valencia 4-1 in their first meeting. The return leg is scheduled for the 10th March.
Hellas Verona are currently 8th in the league table, only one point behind 6th place Napoli.
