Inter have opened talks with Roma over their club captain Edin Dzeko according to a report from Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

It is understood that Roma wish to offload the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team forward after his €7.5 million a year wages have become a burden for them.

Roma wish to get his high wages off their books and are unwilling to let him go for anything less than €13-14 million. Inter, as per the report, could possibly offer one of Matias Vecino or Diego Godin in exchange for the former Manchester City player.

The latter could be particularly tempting to Roma especially if they are unable to extend Chris Smalling’s loan or sign him on a permanent basis.

Relations between Inter and Roma have not been great as of late after a swap deal that would have seen Matteo Politano and Leonardo Spinazzola swapped collapsed but with Gianluca Petrachi, who was Roma’s sporting director at the time, having left things could be different now.

The report goes on to explain that Inter are not alone in courting the 34-year-old striker with Juventus and West Ham United both also having an interest in signing him.

Juventus have already had talks with Roma and could do a swap deal with the Italian capital city club. Roma are not interested in Daniele Rugani but a swap deal could be agreed if either Cristian Romero or Mattia Perin were to be offered.
