Inter manager Antonio Conte has shared his belief that his side did not get what they deserved in the goalless draw at home to Fiorentina on Wednesday night.
Inter dominated the game for the most part and had more than enough chances to score but for a number of reasons the Nerazzurri were unable to find the back of the net and were forced to settle for a point rather than all three points.
“We always tried to play, from the beginning and we created several chances. There goalkeeper being good, the woodwork and various inaccuracies meant we were unable to score, which is too bad. There are times when you sow a lot but reap little,” Conte explained to the gathered media in his post-match press conference, as quoted by Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.
He was then asked about Diego Godin, who continued his recent good form with another good performance at San Siro: “Diego had a good game as well as the others, I don’t like talking about individuals.”
Conte proceeded to speak on the other defenders who played, including Stefan de Vrij, who was forced to hobble off in the first half due to an injury.
“De Vrij also played well and we hope that this injury is nothing serious. D’Ambrosio, Ranocchia and everyone else played well too. I’m sorry because we did not get what we deserved after the effort that we put in.”
In conclusion the former Italian national team boss was asked if finishing in second place is something important.
“It is important to get as high as possible, the boys know that. Having said that, if you talk to me about the importance of second place, I say that it is the first place for losers. The story is written by those who win, the others read it at best. Honestly, second place doesn’t change my life and rightly so.”
