Inter have reached the quarter finals of a European competition for the first time since 2011 a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport highlights.
With thanks to their 2-0 win over Getafe last night at the Arena Auf’Schalke in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Inter have qualified for the Europa League quarter finals. The Nerazzurri club will face the winner of the tie between Bayer Leverkusen and Rangers, which the German side are currently leading 3-1 on aggregate.
It was thanks to two big name players that Inter overcame a tough and dirty Getafe side with those two big names being Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen.
Lukaku scored Inter’s first goal of the match around the half hour mark with a well taken finish whilst Eriksen scored Inter’s second goal late on in the second half, soon after coming off of the substitutes bench.
Especially in Lukaku’s case, the report goes on to conclude that it is clear as to why Inter manager Antonio Conte was so deseprate for him to be signed.
