Inter wing-back Ashley Young has apologised to fans for the side not being able to score more than they ultimately did in their 2-1 success over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League quarter finals.
Inter scored twice within the first 20 or so minutes of the match but could have easily had several more goals both in the first half and the second half but just could not manage to put the ball in the back of the net.
“I’m sorry because we didn’t finish the first half 3-0 up, but we showed a great mentality in the game,” he explained in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV after the match at the Merkur Spiel-Arena.
The Englishman, who joined Inter back in the January transfer window, proceeded to speak about how the team are feeling with regard to their chances of winning the Europa League.
“This team has the great confidence to go all the way. After all, everyone gives 100%. We continue to work hard in training.”
In conclusion the former Manchester United player spoke on how the team will prepare for their Europa League semi final which will see them face either Shakhtar Donetsk or FC Basel.
“The six days to prepare for the semi final? It seems like a lot compared to when we returned to playing. Now we have to think and recover.”
