Inter wing back Ashley Young discussed the Nerazzurri’s Europa League semifinals against Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in an interview with Italian broadcaster InterTV earlier today. His words were noted on Inter’s official website.
“We’re certainly ready and playing how we should be. I think that my teammates and the staff members played a vital role in helping me immediately feel part of the group. The aim is to repay all the support you’re given by doing absolutely everything you can out on the pitch for the benefit of the Club.”
The Englishman highlighted the importance of teamworking in winning games and how the squad are looking to finish the year on a high note.
“It’s a team sport, and we give 100% in training, during which nobody wants to lose. This then carries over to the pitch when we play competitive matches. We’re doing well but need to complete our work, we’ve got two games left to make it a memorable end to the season.”
The former Manchester United full back discussed how the club have been focusing on Shakhtar’s previous games and what they can learn from them.
“We’ve analysed Shakhtar’s previous matches, while they have good players, we need to focus on ourselves in order to perform well and make the most of our quality. After a couple of months where we played every three days, it’s rather strange to have a week to prepare for the semi-final, but it means that we can be thorough.”
Finally, Young spoke about the squad’s only thought ahead of their Monday night challenge.
“The best teams have made the last four, and we’ll have to take to the pitch on Monday with one aim in mind, beating Shakhtar. We’re ready.”
Young joined the Nerazzurri from the Red Devils in the January transfer window, signing a contract that lasts until the end of next season. The player quickly impressed coach Antonio Conte and became a regular part of the squad. He has made 23 appearances for the Nerazzurri across all competitions, scoring four and assisting five in that time.
