Inter are ready and waiting should Barcelona star Lionel Messi decide to leave the club, according to a report from Spanish newspaper Marca earlier today.
The report details how the 33-year-old Argentine forward is unhappy with the direction that the club has taken recently, especially since the sale of Brazilian star Neymar. He feels that funds were inadequately invested into the squad and the latest Champions League disappointment against Bayern Munich is another wound.
Inter have been watching the situation closely, the report continues, and have been dreaming of signing Messi for some time now. The club’s owners, the Suning group, would have the economic strength to carry out such a transfer and so the club are waiting for Messi to make his final decision. The 33-year-old Argentine star’s contract expires with the Blaugrana at the end of next season. The Barcelona forward scored 31 goals and provided 26 assists in 44 appearances this season.
