Inter defender Diego Godin is set to move to Cagliari after agreeing a three-year contract with the Rossoblu, according to a report from Italian media outlet FcInterNews.
The report details how the 34-year-old Uruguayan defender struggled to settle in Milan in his first season, due to a lack of experience playing in a three-man defense.
His inability to quickly adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system disappointed the 51-year-old Italian coach, who often deployed 21-year-old Italian Alessandro Bastoni in his place.
Godin has agreed a three-year contract with Cagliari, the report continues, worth €2.5 million net plus add-ons per season. Inter have also agreed to pay the first three months of his current contract, worth around €1.5 million.
The deal is expected to be finalised soon, much to the relief of the Nerazzurri, who can now free up their wage bill a little, allowing them to make other investments into the squad.
