Inter have made the right decision in selling Radja Nainggolan to Cagliari, according to club legend Beppe Bergomi.

The midfielder is widely expected to rejoin the Rossoblu in a deal worth €12 million in the coming days, despite playing 15 minutes against Fiorentina in the Nerazzurri’s Serie A opener on Saturday.

Bergomi spoke to Sky Sport on their transfer program last night and was pleased to see the transfer nearing completion.

“Inter have a lot of players in midfield, I saw quite a bit of confusion against Fiorentina on Saturday,” Bergomi said.

“It’s true that they won the game with their substitutions but I was watching players play who were effectively on the transfer market.

“The deal for Nainggolan seems to have been done in the right manner; Inter will receive a bit of money and some interesting youngsters.

“I don’t know much about the young players, apart from Riccardo Ladinetti who was given his debut by my friend Walter Zenga.”

Bergomi also cast doubt over the amount of game time Aleksandar Kolarov will get this season, despite making his full debut in Antonio Conte’s three-man defence at the weekend.

“I like him but I don’t think he’ll be first choice for Inter. He’s a strong personality but Inter will need to play a high defensive line this season.”

The 1982 World Cup winner also advised Conte to move Alessandro Bastoni back to the left-hand side of the back three, after the 21-year-old received mixed reviews for his performance in the middle of defence.

“Bastoni is still too raw to be back-up for De Vrij, it’s better to play him in his natural position,” Bergomi added.

Inter return to Serie A action this evening when they will face newly-promoted Benevento at the Stadio Ciro Vigorito.
