Inter and Belgian national team striker Romelu Lukaku has revealed that he will definitely return to Anderlecht, the club where he came through the youth ranks and started his career as a professional footballer about a decade ago.
“If I follow Anderlecht? Yes, always. Will I return like Kompany? I will definitely return,” he explained in an interview with Belgian broadcaster VTM, which was broadcast a short time ago.
“The attraction for a player who was there as a young man is simply too great. Ask guys like Leander Dendoncker, Youri Tielemans. They also remain involved with the club because there we have lived many beautiful moments.”
Lukaku proceeded to discuss life in Italy and how he has found working under Inter manager Antonio Conte thus far and discussed something that they have in common with one another.
“Italy is suited to my style. If I had known before, I would have come here first. Conte? At Inter we play with two forwards.
“When I play on his side, he makes himself heard, but the coach and I get along. We are more or less similar. I, like him, hate losing.”
He was then asked about his decision to not collect a Europa League runners up medal after Inter lost 3-2 to Sevilla back in August.
“I couldn’t do it, it was too much for me. I’ve always had those moments when I simply have to say no. Super Cups, Scudetto lost by one point, World Cup semi-final with Belgium.
“It was awful for me. I thought, ‘f*** this’. I had given so much for that goal, then I didn’t get it. It took me four or five days to get over it.”
He was then asked if he has a friend or fellow professional who advises him on his career.
“I often talk to Thierry Henry. Very often in fact. He is actually my mentor. He gave me the impetus to be compared to other strikers in Europe.”
In conclusion Lukaku, who has scored three goals in as many games this term, spoke on his most recently holiday and his love for travelling to the United States.
“Where did I go on vacation at the end of the season? I holiday In Sardinia. America? “The vibe is very different there and it suits me.
“I like African American culture. If you go out there, the vibe is more hip hop or R&B. I go to Brooklyn, the Bronx. There is that vibe. The clubs. They are funny and the girls are beautiful.”
