Tonight’s derby between Inter and AC Milan will see both clubs lose out on significant amounts of money, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.
The report details how in recent years the derby has seen exponential growth in revenues for both clubs, due to the high amount of ticket sales.
Inter earnt around €3.8 million from the box office in the September 2015 derby, which rose to €5.6 million in February, earlier this year.
That €5.6 million figure represents the third highest box office revenues recorded in Serie A, after the €6.5 million of Inter-Juventus last season and €5.8 million from the Milan derby of 2018/19.
Covid-19 has forced the game to be played behind closed doors, which will see both clubs lose out of the significant amount they would have earned through box office sales.
In 2011 the Chamber of Commerce of Monza and Brianza calculated the economic impact of the derby at €11 million.
