Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia journalist and transfer market Gianluca Di Marzio has insisted that Inter were never open to letting Christian Eriksen leave the club on a loan basis during the recent Summer transfer window.

Eriksen has struggled to perform to expectations in his nine months with Inter to date and this led to some media speculation during the Summer transfer window that he could leave the club.

Reports linked him to the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain among others but in the end Eriksen ended up staying put with the Nerazzurri.

“Love has not blossomed and continues not to blossom. It seems an almost forced coexistence for various reasons,” Di Marzio explained about the relationship between Antonio Conte and the Dane, live on air for Sky Sport Italia, a short while ago.

Asked about whether Inter attempted to sell the 28-year-old Danish national team player, Di Marzio responded: “They didn’t try to sell him, they said no to various loan offers that came for him in the last days of the transfer market, including Borussia Dortmund.”

The renowned journalist then went on to add: “Inter would not have given him away on loan as they did not want to sell Nainggolan. If things change in January we’ll see but there was never a negotiation that was destined to end well because Inter never opened up to loans.”

In his time with Inter, Eriksen, who is contracted until the end of the 2023/24 season, has made 29 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored four goals and tallied three assists.
