Inter manager Antonio Conte has stated that a little bit of good luck would be helpful for his side at this moment after their 2-2 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League group stage opener on Wednesday night.

Inter dominated the match and had far more chances than their German counterparts, who very nearly stole all three points as they scored a late goal that, fortunately for Inter, was cancelled out by Romelu Lukaku’s second of the game in the 90th minute.

“Did we deserve more? Certainly. You can never complain about the determination and courage of this team, this is a group that plays and produces good football,” he began an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV following the match at San Siro.

“I am sorry to talk about a draw, I don’t remember Samir making any saves honestly, they had tow chances and had two goals.

“It’s a paradoxical result. I don’t like to talk about luck but a bit of good luck could help us in this moment.”

The 51-year-old former Italian national team boss was then asked about Achraf Hakimi, who was confirmed as COVID-19 positive just hours before kick-off which forced Conte to draft in Matteo Darmian to replace him.

“We heard about Hakimi at 5pm. This morning he trained with us, we prepared the match thinking of him as a starter.

“I’m sorry for the boy and for the situation in general, in Italy and beyond. I hope it will pass as soon as possible. We must face this period to the best of our ability.

“We will have to make a virtue of necessity, but we must do it with our heads held high, with our strength and our means.”

In conclusion he was asked about the condition of Alexis Sanchez, who was forced off the field at half time due to what the club have confirmed as a thigh injury.

“Honestly, I can’t answer at the moment, we still don’t exactly know Alexis’s condition. We have to wait for the outcome of tomorrow’s clinical tests. I hope it’s nothing serious, he’s essential for our game and for our group.”
