Legendary Inter central midfielder Esteban Cambiasso has shared his belief that Inter were unfortunate in their Champions League group stage match away to Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday evening.
Antonio Conte’s side travelled to the Ukrainian capital to take on the reigning Ukrainian Premier League champions as big favourites but failed to capitalise on the many chances that they had and were forced to settle for a goalless draw at the Kyiv Olympic Stadium.
“Inter had many opportunities, it is true that they could have created even more chances, but the ball still had to enter the net. They were very unfortunate to be honest,” he explained whilst present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia on Tuesday.
“The Nerazzurri want and are acquiring a grown-up mentality. Bastoni’s post match comments about wanting to win in Madrid against Real reflects the philosophy that Conte wants to instil in his boys. De Vrij is also a solid, mature and complete player.”
The former Argentine national team player is regarded as one of Inter’s greatest ever midfielders and spent a decade with the club between 2004 and 2014.
In a trophy filled 10 year spell with the Nerazzurri, which included one Champions League win, Cambiasso made no less than 431 appearances across all competitions for the club, in which he scored 51 goals and provided 34 assists for his teammates.
