Inter central defender Alessandro Bastoni has admitted that so long as it remains mathematically possible, he and his teammates will continue to believe that they can make it into the next round of the Champions League.

Inter lost 3-2 to Real Madrid last night, a result which put Inter to the bottom of group B at the half way stage of the group stage of the competition.

Inter battled back from 2-0 down and had chances to grab a third goal at 2-2 but were unable to capitalise on their chances and were made to pay for this as Real Madrid’s Rodrygo scored late on to secure the hosts the win.

“We are certainly disappointed with the result. We made mistakes that you pay dearly for in these matches,” Bastoni explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, following the match at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium.

“The third goal broke our legs and we are very disappointed. The matches are made up of episodes. As like on other occasions this season they went against us. We will have to work to understand why it happens so often. As long as mathematics gives us a chance we will believe.”

This season Bastoni, who is contracted to Inter until the end of the 2022/23 season, has made six appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park he has assisted one goal.
