Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini discussed the Bergamo based club’s tough 1-1 draw against Inter earlier today in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia after the game.

“I’ve never had the feeling that there was so much difficulty, we play difficult games, both in the league and in the Champions League.

“It can happen that we lose, but the team has always had a good game. They have made their wins, this situation is the result of pressure for which Atalanta has to do who knows what.

“I do not see all the things that are said. Expectations fuel the others, we must have them if we lose.”

He commented on how the squad have faced injury troubles throughout the campaign so far.

“We know how difficult it is, in this period we have also had injuries, the break is useful, we need to recover everyone. We had a good game against a strong team.”

The Italian coach spoke about the performances of Russian forward Aleksei Miranchuk and Italian full back Matteo Ruggeri.

“I am happy for both of them, it wasn’t easy for Ruggeri, he is a guy who is doing well, he has very good skills, he needs experience.

“Miranchuk is extraordinary, in two moments he touched the ball little and scored two very important goals. He has some quality, we hope to put him at his best.”

Gasperini touched on how busy the upcoming schedule is, for all the teams.

“We will never have a full week off, we will train for ten days with six players. It will be like this until Christmas, it is like this for everyone.”

He commented on the painful 5-0 loss to English side Liverpool in the Champions League earlier this week.

“They are world champions, alongside Bayern they are the strongest, they also had difficulties in the league.

“They have done well, but so have we, we could certainly do better, it won’t always end like this. They were a team that was going twice as fast as us that night.”

Finally, Gasperini spoke about the wing backs and the importance of late substitutions.

“It is an important role, we lost Castagne, the club signed three players and we have Ruggeri. Our game is very much based on the wingers, when Hateboer and Gosens are doing well, the others are too.

“We are working to include also those who arrived this window. Today we drew with the entry of Lammers, Miranchuk and Muriel, they are not there to confuse them, but to waste time.

“On certain occasions this can give you something, today it gave us the push to secure the result.”

The Bergamo based club are now fifth in Serie A after seven games, sitting one point behind fourth place Roma and a point about Antonio Conte’s Nerazzurri.

Atalanta’s next game is against Spezia after the international break, before they again face English side Liverpool at Anfield.
