A lot of the talk in the press and on social media focused on how much pressure the manager and the team was under after a string of poor performances.

The team and the tactician just plugged in the tactic that worked very well last season to beat an in-form Sassuolo away. From the kick off, Inter looked hungry and were pressing at the right moments.

Lautaro won the ball and played a perfect pass for Sanchez to knock past Consigli. By the 15th minute a Vidal cross-shot took 2 deflections and went in to count as an own goal.

Inter’s defense and goalkeeper looked focused and determined to get their 2nd clean sheet in Serie A this season and got there at the end without any major hiccups.

Samir Handanovic – 6.5: Much more involved in keeping Inter afloat today. Made some decent saves and moved the ball well. Long overdue clean sheet was well deserved.

Milan Skriniar – 7: Inter’s best defender today. Played like a beast from the get-go. Looks like he has finally settled into the 3-man defense. Passing has got much better.

Stefan De Vrij – 6.5: Quiet leader in defense. His positioning is his best attribute. Rarely makes any mistakes with the ball. The midfield being closer to him also helped.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6.5: Like both of his colleagues in central defence, Bastoni looked up for the game. Made the right movements at the right time and could have even got an assist.

Matteo Darmian – 7: Conte gave Darmian the huge task of marking Boga. Matteo did his best to control the flank and managed to have a few dangerous forays forward.

Nicolo Barella – 6.5: Barella finally played in the regista role as he does for Italy. He shined bright and kept Sassuolo’s midfield forays limited to only a few. Top class.

Arturo Vidal – 6.5: After a difficult game in Europe on Wednesday, Vidal looked hungry to make things right and showed all the positives in his game. Decent outing.

Roberto Gagliardini – 6.5: Much better game for Gagliardini against Sassuolo this time. Stayed in his position and when he went forward showed a lot of quality. Well taken goal.

Ivan Perisic – 6.5: Very measured game by Perisic as he was also helping Bastoni to deal with Berardi and Toljian. Did very well defensively and going forward for once.

Lautaro Martinez – 7: Lautaro was hungry and started off with fire in his belly. Won the ball and set up the first goal for Sanchez. Ran a lot and the confidence is up there.

Alexis Sanchez – 7: Just like Il Toro, Alexis looked hungry for the win. Always made the right runs and when he gives his 100%, he can trouble any defense on his day.

Romelu Lukaku – N/A: Came on for the last 10 minuntes to give some rest to Lautaro and Alexis. Still managed to score a goal that was correctly ruled out. Cannot wait for Tuesday.

Ashley Young – N/A: Decent 10 minutes or so as he came on to get some minutes in his legs and to inject some energy on the wing. Has not slowed down even at his age.

Stefano Sensi – N/A: Nice to see Sensi come on for the second consecutive game. When he gets close to full fitness, he shines like a diamond in Conte’s midfield.

Christian Eriksen – N/A: Another 5 minutes for Eriksen to convince Conte, albeit this time in a 3-5-1-1 with Lukaku up top. Does not look like the same player he is for Denmark.

Achraf Hakimi – N/A: Darmian was the better wing back today and Hakimi was brought on as Matteo was cramping up heavily towards the end. Ready for the Champions League?

Antonio Conte – 6.5: Went back to his basic 3-5-2 from last season and his players did not disappoint. No needless pressure high up the pitch. Game plan worked perfectly.

Massimiliano Irrati – 7: Got every decision spot on. No major issues or decisions to make. The yellow cards were perfect and remained in control of the game till the end.

Inter – 7: Today, the good Inter turned up. Stayed deep and in position in defense, got a clean sheet and converted their chances well. Nothing Pazza today.
