Inter and AC Milan are hoping that their new stadium will be complete and match ready by 2024, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper il Giorno.
The report details how the volumetric index set by the clubs has been confirmed at 0.51, compared to the 0.63 that was presented to the City Council in the initial plans.
The index currently in place for the San Siro is around 0.35, meaning that the two clubs want an increase of 0.16, which translates into 46,979 square meters more, being an overall increase from 98,321 square meters to 145 thousand square meters.
The City consider this increase possible, in part because Inter and AC Milan have given in to the City’s demand to not demolish the existing San Siro stadium, and instead to refurbish it into a multi-purpose arena.
Only two sections of the existing San Siro will remain stadium, the orange sector and the Curva with Tower 11, which will house the AC Milan and Inter museum.
The largest aspect of the refurbishment is the creation of a commercial district and a sporting district, with a list of new buildings for offices, a shopping centre, a 152-meter-high skyscraper and hotels.
The operation could bring the clubs a revenue of around €131 million, a massive €78.7 million more than the existing San Siro does.
If the City Council gives the green light, the project will start with the new stadium and then move towards the partial demolishment of the San Siro and the construction of the districts.
The estimated duration of the entire project is around six years and eight months.
