Noted Italian football agent Oscar Damiani has expressed his thoughts on the current situation of Inter following the Nerazzurri club’s UEFA Champions League group stage exit in mid-week.
Inter drew 0-0 at home to Shakhtar Donetsk which meant they finished in last place in group B and were eliminated not only from the UEFA Champions League but European football entirely.
“From the outside looking in there is not a pleasant feeling. The results count but they are not always decisive. At this point, however, they could try to reach the Scudetto,” Damiani explained in an interview with Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb’s radio station TMW Radio which took place a short time ago.
“Conte is a good coach, Lukaku is also a very strong player but he can’t make a difference in the decisive games. I don’t feel like blaming the coach at all, even the players must have the strength to get the expected results.”
Damiani proceeded to share his views on Danish national team attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen’s situation at the Milanese club following yet another late appearance off the bench versus Shakhtar Donetsk.
“They pay him a significant salary. Perhaps the best solution is to trust him again, I find it difficult to find him another club and to give him away on loan would honestly be a defeat.
“He must deserve his space in the team. Sometimes the foreign players in Italy train in a bit of a mild way, while our coaches always want to go at a thousand miles per hour.
“I don’t believe in spite, I believe that Conte’s decisions on Eriksen are a technical choice. Eriksen has quality, he lacks consistency and in a big club it is not always granted to you.”
In conclusion Damiani was asked about Inter’s need for a deputy to star striker Romelu Lukaku, something they have been lacking ever since Lukaku’s arrival at the club in a club record transfer deal from Manchester United in the Summer of 2019.
“It is complicated. There are also Sanchez and Lautaro, the fundamental technical problem that nobody mentions is that in my opinion Lautaro and Lukaku are morphologically different, but at the level of play they are two first strikers.
“Lautaro also knows how to go around, but if Lukaku is missing, Lautaro can replace him. Can Sanchez be the deputy? I would say not to sign anyone, they have many good players.”
