Inter coach Antonio Conte is planning to start Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen against Cagliari tomorrow, according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.
The report details how it is unclear whether the 28-year-old Dane will be starting as a mezzala in the midfield three or as a trequartista behind Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku and Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez.
The former Tottenham man seems destined to leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window, after failing to adapt to Conte’s tactical system in Milan. A return to the Premier League is possible, as well as a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Contracted to the team until 2024, Eriksen earns around €7 million per season, incredibly high wages for a player that’s hardly utilized by the 51-year-old Italian coach.
Eriksen has made 11 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 315 minutes. In that time, he has struggled to remain visible and has not impressed particularly on the pitch.
