Atalanta forward Papu Gomez hoped to leave the club on a free transfer this month, but it will cost at least €10 million to take him from Bergamo, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the 32-year-old Argentinian forward, who is contracted to Atalanta until 2022, has had a complete relationship breakdown with coach Gian Piero Gasperini and is desparate to leave the club in this month’s transfer window.

He had asked for a free transfer but that request was declined, meaning that it’ll cost at least €10 million to sign Gomez, and including his gross salary the total cost of the deal would be around €25 million.

This makes a transfer to a fellow Italian side, like Inter, difficult but the player has settled in Bergamo with his family and is not keen to move abroad.

Should Gomez decide not to move abroad and fail to find a move to another Serie A side, he may find himself in the stands until the end of the season.
