Inter will look to tie striker Lautaro Martinez down to a new long-term contract when they reopen negotiations next month.

As reported by FCInternews.it, the Nerazzurri are set to build on a positive discussion with Martinez in September to progress talks over a new deal, despite lengthy delays in coming to an agreement.

Those initial discussions are thought to be positive and Inter remain confident that a deal can be struck next month, despite a difference of €1 million in Martinez’s bonus demands and their offer.

Inter’s position has been strengthened by a lack of alternatives for Martinez, with Barcelona cooling their interest as a result of the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Argentina international Martinez is also believed to be keen to commit his future to Inter beyond his existing contract, set to expire in the summer of 2023.

Martinez arrived at Inter from Racing Club in 2018 and has netted 40 goals in 108 appearances for the Nerazzurri.
