Inter are close to reaching an agreement with striker Lautaro Martinez over a new contract, with the Argentine’s existing deal set to expire in the summer of 2023.

According to today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the Nerazzurri have made a breakthrough in their negotiations with Martinez and hope to have a new contract in place by the end of February.

The 23-year-old’s agents will fly to Milan next month to meet with Inter directors Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio with a view to penning the deal as soon as possible.

Martinez’s new contract would see him tied to Inter for an additional season and earn an annual salary of €5 million, plus bonuses.

The Argentina international signed for Inter from Racing Club in his homeland in 2018 and has scored 40 goals in 111 appearances. Martinez featured as Inter reached the Final of the Europa League last season, but was unable to find the net in the 3-2 defeat to Sevilla.
