Inter coach Antonio Conte is not happy with the goal return that Alexis Sanchez has produced so far this season, according to an Italian broadcaster’s report this evening.
Sky Sport 24 highlight that the Chilean international attacker, who is Inter’s third-choice striker, has managed just two goals in 1067 minutes this season across all competitions, leading Conte to criticise him publicly following last night’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus in the Coppa Italia.
They argued Sanchez he should be giving more, even if he is perhaps more comfortable playing as a trequartista than as an out-and-out striker alongside Romelu Lukaku or Lautaro Martinez.
The numbers in fact prove it is not goals but assists where Sanchez specialises, with him having provided a total of 14 assists in 53 appearances for the club since arriving from Manchester United in 2019.
While the 32-year-old is perhaps in line with expectations as far as providing assists is concerned, he is still a long way away from being in line with expectations when it comes to goals.
Sanchez lacked a certain kind of ruthlessness in front of goal, but Sky argued he is still a player who on difficult days can save Inter.
