Massimo Moratti does not want to tempt fate with Inter’s Serie A title chances – but even he admits things are looking good.
The Nerazzurri pulled out a nine-point lead at the top of the table yesterday, thanks to their 2-1 win at Torino coupled with AC Milan losing at home to Napoli.
Inter have not won the league since Moratti’s days at the club, under Jose Mourinho in 2010, but the signs are all pointing in the right direction.
“AC Milan’s defeat ensured Inter have obtained a good lead in the table,” Moratti told Radio Kiss Kiss today.
“Napoli deserved the win over the Rossoneri and are right back in the race to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
“Scudetto for Inter? In football it is better to be superstitious and say nothing, but I think Inter can manage the advantage that they have.
“Juventus have one game in hand, but they have it against Napoli.”
Moratti, who owned Inter between 1995 and 2013 before selling the club to Erick Thohir, also reminisced about some of the coaches that worked at Inter under him.
“The coach I carry in my heart is Jose Mourinho, the most victorious, but Roberto Mancini also started to win with consistency.
“I don’t forget Gigi Simoni either.”
Inter have just 11 games left until the end of the season and their next match will be at home to Sassuolo on Saturday evening.
Conte’s side are now widely being tipped as favourites to secure the Scudetto and potentially change the club’s recent history.
