Inter’s game against Sassuolo on Saturday is at risk of postponement due to COVID-19, according to an Italian media report today.

As things stand, the Nerazzurri have just two confirmed COVID-19 positive cases within the squad in Danilo D’Ambrosio and Samir Handanovic.

However, if more players return positive tests and Inter suffer an outbreak of the virus, this could lead to a postponement, FcInterNews.it have warned.

Serie A clubs can request postponement of a match if they have 10 positive cases, but if they have fewer than 13 players available in their squad then the postponement becomes automatic.

However, Milan’s local health authority could step in and recommend a postponement even if neither of those COVID-19 thresholds are met, such as with Torino’s match against Sassuolo last month (which was finally played yesterday).

Fortunately for Inter, this is their last game before the international break meaning that any positive cases will almost certainly be recovered in time for club football resuming at the start of next month.

The Nerazzurri are expecting to announce the results of more tests today and Antonio Conte will be hoping nobody else has caught the virus.
