Inter await an update on confirmation of a new date for their postponed match against Sassuolo, but the proposed slots could have a negative impact on coach Antonio Conte’s options.
The Nerazzurri were due to face Sassuolo at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza this evening but saw the match postponed after an outbreak of COVID-19 within the squad, with four positive cases amongst players.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the Lega Serie A are considering two new dates for the rearranged match, both in early April.
The first would be on Wednesday 7 April, with AC Milan’s elimination from the Europa League clearing up the stadium for midweek use, although this would coincide with Juventus’ rearranged match against Napoli and would require the match to be played either at 15:00 or 21:00.
However, this could potentially see some of the players affected by the virus not given time to recover and thus be unavailable for selection, with Danilo D’Ambrosio, Samir Handanovic, Stefan De Vrij and Matias Vecino all testing positive this week.
Alternatively, a 18:45 kick-off on Wednesday 14 April has been suggested, although this would give Inter little time to recover from the visit of Cagliari on 11 April, before a trip to Napoli the following Sunday.
