Inter are in danger of losing out to Barcelona in the race to sign Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, according to a report in the Italian media today.

FcInterNews.it have reported that Barca’s new president Joan Laporta wants to get his second tenure at the club under way with a high-profile signing on a free transfer.

The Catalan giants have offered Wijnaldum a three-year deal worth €8 million annually plus bonuses in wages, which is close to the four-year deal worth €10 million per season requested by the midfielder.

Inter remain vigil on the 30-year-old but the Nerazzurri cannot pursue Wijnaldum properly until their off-field situation becomes clearer, which could see them timed out of a move.

Antonio Conte would love to have the Dutch international in his team as Wijnaldum would be a perfect box-to-box midfielder, especially if Arturo Vidal left the club in the summer.

Inter have made explorative and informative contact with the player’s entourage thus far but without making any concrete offers.

Vidal’s departure could permit Inter to sign Wijnaldum by guaranteeing him the salary that the Chilean used to have, but there is no certainty with owners Suning’s situation at the moment.

FCIN’s report said Barcelona were also in talks with Sergio Aguero at Manchester City, another player Inter have been linked to in recent weeks.
