Alessandro Bastoni has issued a rallying cry to his Inter teammates ahead of their Serie A title run-in.
The Nerazzurri are closing in on their first league title since 2010, holding a six-point lead over AC Milan (and a game in hand) with 11 matches left.
Bastoni is away on international duty with Italy this week but he still has one eye on Inter’s bid to win the Scudetto.
“We’ll try to win every game we have left, we only have the league to play,” the defender told Rai Sport today.
“Beating Juventus in Serie A (2-0 on January 17) gave us a great boost and strength, we hadn’t managed to beat them before.
“Us youngsters have matured a lot, me and Nicolo Barella have managed to take our games to the next level and you can see the results.
“This is a journey we’re on at Inter from last season.
“We had a few shortcomings which we’re trying to remove, winning games that last season we were struggling to win.”
Bastoni was surprisingly thrown into Inter’s starting XI at the start of last season after re-joining the club following a loan spell at Parma.
Antonio Conte immediately put his faith in the centre-back and he has been repaid with a series of increasingly impressive performances.
“I’ve improved a lot thanks to my teammates and the coach Conte,” Bastoni added.
“I have a great relationship with him, he’s certainly given me a lot of confidence.
“I started playing right from the start last season, he always believed in me and he’s giving me a great hand in my development, helping me improve my weak areas.
“Conte tells me to play with courage and personality and do not be afraid of doing things.
“I’m doing everything to repay the faith he has shown in me.”
Bastoni has made 32 appearances in all competitions for Inter this season, providing four assists.
He was an unused substitute last night as Italy beat Northern Ireland in their opening 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
