Stefano Sensi was delighted after getting the chance to start for Italy in FIFA World Cup qualifying last night.
The Inter midfielder played 68 minutes for Roberto Mancini’s side as they defeated Bulgaria 2-0 in their second match of the international break.
Sensi hadn’t played in any competition since his 25-minute cameo against Juventus in the Coppa Italia on February 9.
Speaking to Rai Sport last night after the Azzurri’s victory, he admitted: “I am very happy because it was a long time since I last played and got a lot of minutes.
“I must thank the coach (Mancini) for the faith he’s showing in me.
“With lots of games in a short period there’s an increased risk of fatigue and tiredness, but I think we showed great character against Bulgaria.
“We’ve won a lot of games in a row and this certainly means something.”
Sensi has made just one start for Inter in all competitions this season, and that came way back in the 5-2 win at Benevento on September 30.
He will have another chance to play for Italy on Wednesday when they visit Lithuania for matchday 3 of their qualifying campaign.
Inter signed Sensi from Sassuolo in 2019, initially on loan, but have hardly had him available since then thanks to a series of niggling physical problems.
The 25-year-old has only made 13 appearances for Antonio Conte’s men in the current campaign, failing to contribute any goals or assists.
