Inter’s Italian trio have emerged unscathed from a COVID-19 scare in the Italian national team, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Four members of the Azzurri’s backroom staff tested positive for the virus yesterday before Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci did the same today.
Inter were briefly concerned for the health of Nicolo Barella, Alessandro Bastoni and Stefano Sensi, with Antonio Conte counting upon them for Saturday’s Serie A fixture at Bologna.
However, FcInter1908.it have reported that all three tested negative for COVID-19, along with their fellow internationals Christian Eriksen and Andrei Radu.
Barella, Bastoni and Sensi’s negative tests enabled them and the other pair to complete individual training sessions at Appiano Gentile today.
These were only rapid tests though, with the results of more thorough molecular tests due tomorrow; only at that point can Conte be certain nobody has caught the virus.
Bonucci’s positive tests could lead the Italian Football Federation to adopt more stringent measures regarding the rest of Roberto Mancini’s squad, but this would be communicated to Inter if and when necessary in due course.
