Stefano Sensi received interest from Barcelona last summer, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Calciomercato.com said the La Liga giants made an approach to request information regarding the Inter midfielder.

Barca’s interest came to nothing but the report said it was proof that Sensi had the talent to be a difference maker for Europe’s best teams.

Inter still believe in Sensi’s ability and are not intending to offload the 25-year-old, whose contract ties him to the club until 2024.

Sensi received a much-needed boost last night by scoring Italy’s opening goal in their 2-0 victory over Lithuania in FIFA World Cup qualifying.

CM suggested his second-half strike could be the spark that reignites his career at Inter as well, having not started under Antonio Conte since September.

Inter are ‘a perfect orchestra’ now and it will not be easy for Sensi to regain the spot in midfield that he had nailed down at the start of last season, the report warned.

Marcelo Brozovic and Christian Eriksen have built chemistry alongside one another and it will be up to Sensi to muscle his way back into contention and persuade Conte to give him another chance.

Inter signed Sensi on an initial loan deal from Sassuolo with an option to buy for €25 million, which was exercised last summer.

Sensi has struggled with injury problems for most of the last 18 months and has played just 13 times for the Nerazzurri during the current campaign.
