Inter would have to commit an almighty self-destruct act to throw away the Serie A title now, according to former Nerazzurri defender Daniele Adani.

Antonio Conte’s side have the chance to open up an 11-point gap over second-placed AC Milan by beating Sassuolo in today’s rearranged fixture.

Inter have won nine league games in a row since the end of January and have conceded just three goals in their last 11 Serie A outings.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch TV channel on Monday, Bobo TV, Adani suggested: “The only way Inter can lose the Scudetto now would be if their players took the ball and started kicking towards Samir Handanovic’s goal.

“Perhaps if they start scoring own goals they can lose a match and re-open the title race, otherwise I think it’s done for the Nerazzurri now.”

Inter extended their lead at the top even further over the Easter weekend, taking advantage of AC Milan’s draw with Sampdoria with victory over Bologna.

Juventus also dropped points on Saturday with a 2-2 draw at Torino in the Derby della Mole, leaving the Bianconeri 12 points adrift with 10 games to go.

Inter will be without the suspended Alessandro Bastoni and Marcelo Brozovic against Sassuolo tonight after both picked up their fifth bookings of the season at Bologna.
