Inter’s players have been given no good reason to agree to wage cuts with Suning, according to a report in the Italian media today.
As per Corriere dello Sport’s print edition, Steven Zhang asked them to give up two months’ wages yesterday in order to help ease the club’s financial emergency.
Inter’s president was within his rights to make such a request, the report suggested, but what is not acceptable is that he did so without offering any clear vision for the club’s future.
Zhang needs to explain where the Nerazzurri are going if he wants to justify such a proposal with the players, but at the moment there is no sign of where Suning are heading.
Suning rejected offers to sell Inter earlier in 2021, but now they are not showing an intention or an ability to invest in the club to ensure they continue to grow.
The Rome-based paper warned there was little evidence of Zhang having a plan at present, having asked everyone to make a big financial sacrifice without explaining what it will serve for.
Inter’s players and staff will need ‘a credible project’ explained to them if they are to all continue together, so it remains to be seen if such a plan exists.
