“We apologize to the Austrian fans.” The words of Luke Spendlhofer, Inter defender currently on loan to Varese, after his Austrian U21 national team were defeated by the European champions Spain with 2-6. In the interview with Austrian LaOla.tv the young defender also talked about Inter and began with his debut in the first team in the match against Genoa: “To play in Serie A is something you’ve dreamt about since childhood.”Lukas also talked about the contract dispute between him and Inter last summer: “The club wanted to extend my contract, but their proposal didn’t satisfy me happy in terms of duration, clauses and other details” In the end, everything worked out though: “Inter met my demands, they gave me the freedom to choose, and for me this was very important. The club counts on me and for that reason, I extended until 2016.”

But right now Spendlhofer is playing for Varese: “Inter is in my heart, now I want to assert myself and start in Serie B and take one step at a time. I like Varese, we have everything we need. It’s a brand new team, from the leadership to the coach, with many new players and a new philosophy when it comes to playing style. The level of Serie B is really high, it surprised me. I’ve got space on the team and I hope to continue like this.

The decision to go to Varese on loan came after talks with Walter Mazzarri: “After that, I realized that it is not realistic that there would be room for me in the first team and then it was right to seek experience elsewhere. We’ll see what happens after this season, it is possible that I once again leave on loan.”
