Inter are ready to complete a deal to sell Portuguese midfielder to Benfica, but are awaiting confirmation from their lawyers that they can complete the sale without incurring a penalty.
This according to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, who report that the Nerazzurri are mindful of a clause in the player’s original transfer deal from Sporting that supposedly prohibits him from moving to one of their Portuguese rivals.
The 28-year-old is a player who the Nerazzurri hope to offload in the summer, the club had been in talks with Sporting to make his loan deal from last season permanent, but negotiations fell through over Sporting’s unwillingness to meet their valuation.
Moving on to offers from other offers after this, it is Sporting’s Lisbon rivals Benfica who have jumped to the head of the queue for the player’s signature.
It is thought that the agreement between Inter and Benfica for the player’s sale is virtually complete, but the deal will not go ahead until Inter’s lawyers give them the green light regarding the clause in his contract which Sporting believes prohibits the sale under a significant financial penalty.
It is believed that Sporting could immediately take legal action upon the completion of the deal with Benfica, and the Nerazzurri will want assurances from their lawyers that they could not be subject to penalties.
